I recently got a complaint that while I constantly discuss being an art student, I never share any of my work. This is mostly because I'm still learning, and what might impress my professor may not be that impressive to you guys, simply because it's impossible for you as an audience to judge the growth. However, I realize you can appreciate "the pretty," so to compromise, I'm sharing my latest "pretty" Typography I project (with a bonus at the end). I'm curious to see what you guys have to say, so please discuss!

For this project, we were to "explore the technique of visual storytelling through timing and sequencing of type." We were allowed to depict a poem, speech, short-short story, or song lyrics in 4x4 inch accordion format. The song I chose to illustrate for this project was Glittering Cloud by Imogen Heap (surprise, surprise, I know). We were allowed to use 2-3 typefaces (OldStyle HPCS, Old Typewriter and JaneAusten were used in mine) and two color choices (plus b&w). Outside of the type treatment, there was a major emphasis for this project on paper choice and cover production. We were graded on how well each of the two supported our project in a cohesive manner. Naturally, I immediately shot past my printing abilities and picked a gorgeous gold paper which was nearly impossible to print on in the end. My cover also turned out to be a mini-disaster. Though it looks exactly how I wanted, the covering mesh didn't do it's job holding the glitter in, and I lost a shitload of points due to the messy nature of it. Lesson Learned: Graphic Designers NEVER USE GLITTER. Never again.

First painting of a diptych I'm doing for the mantel.
